Oxidized Bitumen 90/10

General Description

Oxidized Bitumen 90/10 or Blown Bitumen 90/10 is a semi-solid grade oxidized type of bitumen generally. This grade of Bitumen, R90/10, is made by Pure Bitumen aeration, which leads to Bitumen oxidation with air. In this operation, hydrogen gets into a reaction with oxygen atoms and the result is bitumen that has a lower penetration and a higher softening point than the initial bitumen.

Penetration Bitumen 60/70 is a raw material for the production of Blown Bitumen 90/10 and many other grades by passing very hot air through the Penetration Bitumen 60/70 and this way, the oxidation operation begins. During this procedure, all parameters like temperature, pressure, oil content, etc., must be monitored and controlled. Without accurate monitoring and controlling of the parameters, desired quality goals will not be achieved. Because of the special rubbery properties of this grade, it can be used in numerous industries.

Technical Properties : Oxidized Bitumen 90/10

Oxidized Bitumen 90/10 (Blown Bitumen 90/10 or R90/10) has a softening point equal to 90℃ and its penetration degree is equal to 10 desi-millimeter. Its technical properties are measured according to ASTM test methods. The ASTM-D36 and ASTM-D5 are used to assess the softening point and the penetration degree, respectively.

Applications : Oxidized Bitumen 90/10

Oxidized Bitumen 90/10 (Blown Bitumen 90/10 or R90/10) manufactured by PUB-LTD CO. is used in numerous industrial applications and operations. It has more rubber property than other grades; because of the particular property it gains during the oxidation procedure. It is used in the production of special paints, civil engineering, building and road construction, for roofing, coating and flooring, as anti-slip layer components, as an undercarriage sealant for the cars in the automotive industry, in the piling industry, for electrical operations, cable coating, oil and gas pipelines coating, crack sealing, road repair operations, in the production of pulp papers, bituminous products and textile, as a joint filling compound, sound-reducing agent, for dust proofing, waterproofing, roofing felts, production of lacquers, varnishes, pavements, as a fuel component. Furthermore, it’s used as raw material for the production of adhesives, insulation materials, bitumen based membrane isolation sheet, in the chemical industry, for the production of special bitumen-based paints and pigments to protect metal structures from corrosion, in the hydraulic applications and operations, as an additive in Portland cement pavements, as a base for synthetic turf and for producing rubber and plastic.

Handling/Storage : Oxidized Bitumen 90/10

Heating Bitumen for most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃. All Oxidized Bitumen is risk-free at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Heating and heat transfer should be controlled. Improper heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors and these unwanted side products have a higher fire risk. Also, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to cool down. Because this can cause overheating and requires more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing of the temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices is very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the real temperature, which can lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
