Oxidized Bitumen 90/15
General Description
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 or Bitumen R90/15 is a semi-solid grade oxidized type of Bitumen Generally. It is known as R90/15 grade as well. This grade of bitumen is produced by the aeration of pure bitumen, which leads to the oxidation of the bitumen with hot air. In this procedure, hydrogen atoms get into a reaction with oxygen atoms and the result is hydrocarbons with lower penetration and higher softening point than pure bitumen.
Penetration Bitumen 60/70 is a raw material for the production of Oxidized / Blown Bitumen 90/15 and many other grades by passing very hot air through the Penetration Bitumen 60/70, so the oxidation operation begins. While that process is running, all parameters like temperature, pressure, oil content, etc., must be monitored and controlled. Without accurate monitoring and controlling of the production parameters, desired quality goals will not be achieved. Because of the special rubbery properties of this grade, it can be used in numerous industries.
Technical Properties : Oxidized Bitumen 90/15
Blown Bitumen R90/15 is named by two specific numbers. One of them is the softening point, and the other number is the needle Penetration value which is equal to 90℃ and 15 desi-millimeter, respectively. These numbers are assessed by ASTM international test methods. The softening point test method is according to ASTM-D36 (Ring and Ball) and for assessing the penetration degree, the method described in ASTM D5 is used.
Applications : Oxidized Bitumen 90/15
Blown Bitumen 90/15 or R90/15 produced by PUB-LTD Co. has more rubber properties than other grades; because of the particular property it gains in oxidization procedure. Due to these abilities, it can be used in numerous industrial applications. It is used in the production of special paints, civil engineering, building and road construction, roofing, coating, flooring, as an anti-slip layer component, undercarriage sealant for the cars in the automotive industry, in the piling industry, in electrical operations, cable coating, oil and gas pipelines coating, crack sealing, road repair operations, in the production of pulp papers, bituminous products and textile, as a joint filling compound, sound-reducing agent, for dust proofing, waterproofing, in the roofing felts, lacquers, varnishes, pavements, as a fuel component. Furthermore, it’s used as raw material for adhesives, insulation, isolation bitumen membrane sheet, chemical industry, special bitumen-based paints and pigments to protect metal structures from corrosion,in the hydraulic applications and operations, as an additive in Portland cement pavements, as a base for synthetic turf, for producing rubber and plastic.
Handling/Storage : Oxidized Bitumen 90/15
Heating bitumen for most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃. All oxidized Bitumen is risk-free at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Heating and heat transfer should be controlled. Improper heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors and form unwanted side products that have a higher fire risk. Also, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to cool down. Because it can cause overheating and requires more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing of the temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices is very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the real temperature, which can lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
